Frequently Asked Questions
What types of dance do we learn?
In Gr. 9 the focus is on jazz, ballet, Hip Hop, ballroom and learning the foundations of dance. As you take dance courses throughout your highschool career, you will continue to work on these techniques as well as modern, lyrical, and tap as well as other forms of world dance.
Does it matter if I have never danced before?
Not at all! In each class there are a variety of levels and experience and students learn and are evaluated at their own level.
I have danced at a dance studio for many years. Why should I take a high school dance class?
The school dance program enhances and expands the technique learned at a studio. As well, dancers are able to learn new styles of dance that they don't usually learn at studios and they learn choreographic techniques, dance history, anatomy, and dance critique. The school dance program allows a dancer to have a well-rounded dance education to benefit and compliment their studio training.
What do I have to wear?
Similar to a Physical Education class, students have to wear clothing that is appropriate for the class. They are asked to wear comfortable, fitted clothes that allow them to move easily. It is suggested that you wear dance/yoga pants, a bodysuit or tank top or similar clothing. You may also wear regular dance clothes like bodysuit and tights.
